#42 in the middle of the pac
Cold and rainy in Brno !!!! That's not what we wanted for
the start of the Championship.
...However the next day was sunny and beautiful and so was the
whole weekend. Ideal racing conditions.... let's go...
Steve put his 916 to an unbelievable 2:18, as a result of his
training sessions in Barcelona and Hockenheim. Some of the other V2 riders came
by and were already making excuses for their lap times. Steve was 9 seconds
quicker than last year and was in 4th place on the grid for the V2
Race. Despite a bad start he was still able to finish in 7th place, and won
the first trophy for the team. That's the way we hoped to have our season
opening!
It was the first time for Dietrich to be on a race track this
year and the first time back on a 4 cylinder machine. The first day he wasn't
really comfortable with the set-up, but on Saturday he was able to become one
with his MV Agusta and with his 2:21, the gap to Steve was not that incredibly
distant anymore. He finished in 9th place in the 750 class, and won the second
trophy for the team.
Marc rode totally different than last year and showed all of us
how much difference it made to constantly keep training. He was 10 seconds
faster than last year. Just a little bit quicker and he would have qualified for
the GP2 Race and heading for his first trophy in the V2 Class (only 2 places to
go).
Andy started the season with the right way of thinking. He
was faster and faster from lap to lap. He also found a number of fans for the
design of his bike and helmet. At the end of the weekend he was almost 10
seconds faster than Marc at this track in 2006. If he can keep improving at this
speed, he will be running up front with us at the end of the season.
Beautiful weather, no damage to the bikes, or us, 2 trophies in
the bank... we were so happy!
